Palliative Care Psychotherapy

When cancer becomes advanced or life-limiting, the experience can affect not only the patient's physical health but also their emotional well-being, relationships, sense of independence, and understanding of the future. Patients and families may experience fear, uncertainty, sadness, anger, helplessness, and changing hopes and priorities.

Palliative Care Psychotherapy
50 Mins / Session
Online / Virtual Care

Palliative care psychotherapy provides a safe and compassionate space for patients and families to talk

openly about what they are experiencing. We explore emotional distress, fears about illness and the

future, changes in independence, concerns about family members, communication difficulties, and the

emotional impact of ongoing treatment and symptoms.

Therapy also supports patients in identifying what is meaningful and important to them at this stage of

life. Where appropriate, the focus may include coping with uncertainty, strengthening family

communication, addressing emotional distress, supporting decision-making, maintaining dignity, and

finding meaning and quality of life despite the challenges of advanced illness.

Support is also extended to caregivers and family members who may be experiencing emotional

exhaustion, anticipatory grief, or difficulty coping with the changes taking place.
