Book ConsultationPsychological support for processing grief associated with changes in health, functioning, independence, relationships, and life circumstances.

Cancer may involve multiple forms of loss, including changes in health, physical functioning, independence, employment, relationships, lifestyle, or future expectations. Surgical treatment may result in the loss of a body part or permanent changes in physical functioning, creating a complex process of psychological adjustment. Patients may experience grief through sadness, anger, disbelief, frustration, loneliness, fear, or uncertainty. Such reactions are individual and may change over time as the person progresses through treatment and recovery. Psycho-oncological counselling provides a supportive environment where patients can acknowledge and express these emotions without judgement. Counselling can help individuals understand grief as a natural response to significant change rather than as a sign of psychological weakness. Patients may be supported in processing their losses while gradually identifying new sources of meaning, purpose, connection, and hope. Family members may also experience grief and benefit from appropriate emotional support. The counselling process respects each individual's pace of adjustment and avoids imposing expectations regarding how quickly emotional recovery should occur. The overall aim is to facilitate healthy emotional processing, acceptance, resilience, and adaptation to life following significant loss.
